AJ Johnson’s Wife Asks Friends To Stop With The Fake Love and Fake Calls
Actor AJ “Ezal” Johnson was a beloved comedian known for his work in black cult classic films like Friday. Unfortunately, he was found lifeless several days ago, with many coming forward with fond memories and words of support to those impacted by his passing. His wife, however, feels like it is all fake love. They took to social media to express how hurt she is by the sheer volume of people reaching out to “show love” but not actually donating to the GoFundMe created to help bury her husband.
His representative LyNea Bell confirmed the sad news with CNN this past Monday, September 20th. Johnson was 55 years old and a well-known face in black cinemas. The likes of Bow Wow, Ice Cube, and Mike Epps all took to social media to express their condolences.
Ice Cube tweeted, “Sad to wake up to the news about AJ Johnson passing away. Naturally funny dude who was straight outta Compton at the same time. Sorry I couldn’t bring your character Ezal back to the big screen in Last Friday…” Bow Wow opened up about how Johnson was the reason he got discovered. He was the MC/host at the Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre shows that put Bow Wow on their radar. Bow Wow claims Johnson spotted him the crowd and pulled him up on stage.
With this much love from high-profile people, it’s easy for his wife Lexis Jones Mason to have believed that she would receive some type of generous donation to help with funeral expenses. “People saying we’re going to give money, I have not received it,” she said in a video posted to her social media. “If you want to give, I will appreciate it. But please stop the fake love, fake calls, fake texts. please.”
While she would appreciate the help, she also said she is not relying on it. “I have to pay for this all out of pocket. I am asking for help, but if I don’t get it, it’s fine. I am not leaving my husband like that. We’re gonna have a service. I am going to do everything he would have done for me.”
Johnson’s wife clearly feels like people are not being genuine. “Yall say yall love him, where’s the love. Yall not helping. I get the calls and inboxes saying yall raising money.” At the time of the interview, Lexis claims they had only raised $800 on GoFundMe Campaign.
