Late R&B Singer Jesse Powell’s Family Accepting Cash Blessings As They Prepare To Lay Him To Rest
R&B fans are still mourning the passing of singer Jesse Powell. The Gary, Indiana crooner was famous for his powerhouse vocals and the single “You.” Released in 1999, “You” was the biggest hit of his career at peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. He released his last album in 2003 and faded from the spotlight for over two decades until his passing this year. Jesse Powell sister broke news of his passing on Instagram on September 13th. Now his family is preparing to lay him to rest and accepting donations from fans.

Jesse passed from cardiac arrest only a few days shy of his 51st birthday. According to his sisters, fellow singers Trina and Tamara Powell, Jessie passed peacefully in his Los Angeles home surrounded by family. The shared a video college of some of his press images from over the years. In follow up posts she shared videos of her brother singing and said “Aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there, you were the best big brother ever. I loved you so much.”
In a separate video she thanked his fans, friends and family for their support and uplifting his memory in the days since he pasted. A clearly emotional Tamara asked for fans to bear with her and she read her prewritten thoughts from her phone. In the caption she said “The entire Powell family would like to thank you for all of your love & support in the passing of our beloved Jesse Powell.”

Tamara also announced Jesse’s official memorial, which will take place on September 28th. The private memorial will be streamed for a select group of fans who gifted the family donations via a link on their page. Tamara said “TO ALL THE FANS WHO HAVE GIFTED JESSE VIA LINKTREE…. YOU WILL RECEIVE A PRIVATE LINK TO VIEW THE OFFICIAL MEMORIAL AND BALLOON RELEASE VIA LIVESTREAM. ” She encouraged others to continue to bless the family in the way of their choosing via the link ahead of the memorial service. “PLEASE USE THE LINK IN BIO TO CHOOSE THE BLESSING OPTION OF YOUR CHOICE.”
Over on the link, fans are given the option of a “cash blessing.” The link defaults to $150 and $250 but you can also add a custom amount. There is also the option to donate towards a balloon release or send flowers.
